The online platform for insurer Balcia: 10+ product calculators with instant pricing, a subscription model, online claims filing, and two languages.
Balcia is an insurance company whose main sales channel is online — a place where customers choose a product themselves, calculate the price, and buy a policy without a phone call or an agent. This approach changes every requirement for the site: it isn’t a presentation, but a full self-service platform where every step has to be as simple as possible, since every extra field means an abandoned purchase.
The core of the site is its product calculators. Each of more than ten types of insurance — KASKO, OCTA, City Combo, home, travel, Extreme, accident, junior, civil liability, Moto Kasko — has its own multi-step purchase path with instant price calculation. The task was to assemble complex insurance logic so that it looks simple to the user: a few answers, and the price is on the screen.
A separate, important part is the subscription model. Balcia products can be subscribed to and cancelled at any time, which requires different thinking than a one-time purchase — the site displays the price as a monthly fee “from … EUR/month,” and the logic itself is built around a flexible rather than a one-off transaction.
The second cornerstone of self-service is claims. Claims are filed online through clear steps, with a visible process time at each stage — the customer knows how long the application review and decision will take. This is a part that affects trust in insurance no less than the purchase itself.
The site operates in two languages — Latvian and English — and is linked to separate target-audience campaigns and a mobile app. Everything is built around one principle: insurance should be just as simple as any other online purchase.
