Ameda, an online store for compression products and anti-aging cosmetics, built on WooCommerce: a custom theme, a size-measurement system, a separate prescription flow, and three languages.
Ameda is the online store of Dr. Mauriņa Vein Clinic — a family business run by the Mauriņa family, selling medical compression stockings and professional anti-aging cosmetics. It’s not an ordinary online store: half of the range is medical products, chosen not by colour but by size, compression class, and a doctor’s recommendation.
This specificity is exactly what shaped the store’s structure. For compression products, an “add to cart” button isn’t enough — the buyer needs to understand how to take their measurements correctly. Every product has its own measuring guide: wrist circumference, bicep circumference, calf measurements. This information is built right into the product page so that people don’t order the wrong size and then return the item.
There’s a separate flow for prescriptions. Some compression products are prescribed by doctors, so the site has a dedicated “I have a prescription” path that connects the medical side with the e-commerce side. A customer with a doctor’s prescription isn’t pushed through the regular purchase scenario, but through their own.
The catalogue is split into two clearly distinct worlds — compression products with subcategories for women, men, sport, and medical use, and cosmetics with ampoules, serums, creams, and sun protection. Alongside this comes the standard but necessary e-commerce mechanics: gift cards with balance checking, a wishlist, a promotions section, a customer profile.
The site is built on WooCommerce with a custom theme and works in three languages — Latvian, English, and Russian. A caching solution is used for performance, because in a medical store a slow page means an abandoned cart at exactly the moment someone is looking for a solution to a specific problem.
The online platform for insurer Balcia: 10+ product calculators with instant pricing, a subscription model, online claims filing, and two languages.
